Prairie Lawn Cemetery is located on the NE 1/4 of Section 11 in Spaulding Township of Union County.  From Creston, at the intersection of Townline Road and Green Valley Road travel north 4 1/2 miles to the cemetery on the west side of the road.

 

Articles of Incorporation for Prairie Lawn Cemetery were filed on 30 October 1883.  The land was purchased for $25 from E J Emmons and his wife Lillie, one of the original settlers in the community in 1867.  Among the first burials were 7 area children who died of diphtheria in 1872-73. They were buried on one of the family’s farms and re-interred in the new cemetery.
