Located in Platte Twp, NE 1/4 Section 23, Grove Chapel Cemetery takes its name for Grove Chapel Methodist Church near which it is located. The first person buried there in 1876 was Mrs Gard. She was ridiing past the church one day when she remarked that there should be a cemetery there and then indicated a pleasant spot and said that when she died she wanted to be buried there.  A week after she made that request, she was buried there. There was some difficulty in securing permission to start a cemetery in that place. However, the owner of the farm consented to allow the cemetery when he learned of the request Mrs.Gard had made.
