Located in the NE 1/4 of Section 16 of Union Township of Union County, Greenlawn is the Afton City cemetery.  The first cemetery for Afton was located north of the village, but in the early 1860s it was moved to its current location. Among the first burials were two Civil War soldiers of the 29th Regiment, Iowa Volunteer Infantry, M. A. Day and J. H. Duel.  In May 1901, the ladies of Afton formed a cemetery association, to care for and beautify the cemetery.
